Rediscovering the Amazon of Art Deco

Expo Eyre De Lanux

Elizabeth Eyre de Lanux: remember that name. It belongs to an Amazon of Art Deco, a contemporary of Eileen Grey, known only to a small circle of initiates (including Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent).

Not for long! A retrospective exhibition at the Willy Huybrechts gallery from 19 September to 19 October 2013 and a major 300-page monograph published by Norma will crown 4 years of research all over the world.

Willy Huybrechts and Louis-Géraud Castor have authored a reference book retracing the career of a staggeringly creative American artist who moved in Parisian literary and artistic circles from 1918 onwards.

With her androgynous beauty, showcased by Man Ray’s magnificent portraits, her social life (she was Brancusi’s student, Picasso’s friend, Aragon’s muse) as well as the uninhibited love life that saw her move from male to female lovers, she is an icon of the 1920s.

The Willy Huybrechts Gallery has managed to collect some thirty pieces as well as drawings that offer a very representative overview of the production of an iconic creator of the 20th century, on a par with Eileen Gray, Charlotte Perriand and Maria Pergay. Major pieces such as Yves Saint Laurent’s personal desk are featured in this museum-quality exhibition.
